WHY IT FITS

Made for a room that’s open all day.

  • Never the same song twice

A playlist loops. This doesn’t: every song is composed as it plays, so regulars and staff never hear the same tune on repeat.

  • It follows your opening hours

Bright bossa nova for the morning rush, a fuller groove at lunch, easygoing swing in the afternoon and slow ballads after dark. It changes with the clock on its own.

  • Runs in a browser tab

Nothing to install and no account. Open the page on a laptop, tablet or phone connected to your speakers and press play.

  • No ad breaks

No ads, voiceovers or announcements between songs. Just instrumental music that stays in the background.

THROUGH THE DAY

A day of café music

The music follows your device’s clock on its own. Tap a time of day in the player to preview it.

  1. Morning · 6:00–11:00

Bright bossa nova and light swing

For the first coffees: sunny keys, a lively pulse and plenty of bossa nova.

  2. Lunch · 11:00–14:00

The liveliest music of the day

Lunch is the busiest stretch, so the band plays fuller and a little faster to carry a full room.

  3. Afternoon · 14:00–17:00

    Easygoing swing

The pace settles: relaxed swing and bossa nova for long coffees and laptop work.

  4. Evening · 17:00–21:00

    Mellower and warmer

Slower tempos, more minor keys and the first ballads as the light goes.

  5. Late · 21:00–6:00

Soft ballads for the last tables

Brushes, quiet piano and slow ballads until closing.

RECORDED INSTRUMENTS

A real band, composing as it plays

Every note is composed in your browser as it plays, then performed on recordings of real instruments.

  • Grand piano

A Steinway B, comping jazz chords and taking the melody in the ballads.

  • Upright bass

A plucked double bass that walks through the swing tunes and plays the root–fifth bossa nova figure.

  • Brushed drums

Brush sweeps and taps, a ride cymbal under the solos, and cross-stick and shaker for bossa nova.

  • Jazz guitar

A hollow-body archtop that strums the bossa nova rhythm and comps some of the swing tunes, recorded through both its pickup and a microphone.

  • Vibraphone

Soft mallets for the melodies and the improvised solos.

What makes good coffee shop music

Good café music sits under the conversation rather than on top of it. Instrumental jazz and bossa nova have done that job for decades: there are no lyrics competing with the people talking, the grooves are steady, and the harmonies are warm without being sleepy.

What a playlist can’t do is notice the time. A café at 8 a.m. and at 8 p.m. are different rooms, so this music shifts with the clock: the tempo, the keys and the mix of bossa nova, swing and ballads all follow the daypart. For a quieter, drum-free sound, try spa music; for working alone, there is focus music tuned to your own mood.

QUESTIONS

About café music

What is café music?

Café music is relaxed, mostly instrumental music that coffee shops play in the background: usually jazz, bossa nova and soft acoustic styles that keep a room warm without getting in the way of conversation. Taranify generates it endlessly in your browser.

Is this café music free?

Yes. It costs nothing, and there is no account, app or subscription.

Does the music repeat?

No. Every song is composed as it plays, with its own key, melody and solo, so the music never loops the way a playlist does.

How does it change through the day?

It follows your device’s clock: bright bossa nova and light swing in the morning, the liveliest music at lunch, easygoing swing in the afternoon, mellower songs in the evening and soft ballads late at night. You can preview any time of day in the player.

Can it play all day?

Yes, it is built to keep going for hours. Keep the tab open and the device plugged in; the screen stays on while it plays. Some phones stop browser audio when they are locked or another app takes the sound. If that happens, tap Resume.

Which instruments does it use?

Recordings of a grand piano, an upright bass, a brushed drum kit, an archtop jazz guitar and a vibraphone. The notes are composed live; the sounds are real instruments.

Can I add coffee shop background noise?

Yes. Turn on Café chatter for a quiet recording of a real coffee shop under the music, for working or studying at home.

Are there ads in the music?

No. There are no ad breaks, voiceovers or announcements between songs.

How much data does it use?

About 1 MB of instrument recordings, downloaded once. After that the music is made on your device rather than streamed.
