Focus music that gets you in the zone in 3 minutes
Endless instrumental lofi that starts from the mood you're in now and, within 3 minutes, brings you to the right one for deep work, coding, study or sleep. Music for productivity, with no lyrics and no sign-up.
Music for deep work and study
Deep work
Music for coding, programming, design, analysis and problem solving: work that needs long, sustained attention. A steady lofi groove with warm keys and a gentle melody. Deep focus music that keeps you moving without pulling you in.
Read, write & study
Music for reading, writing and studying. Language-heavy work is the most sensitive to background sound, so this mode is slower, quieter and plays far less melody. Music for concentration that stays out of the way.
ADHD focus
A faster, busier version of Deep work for people who focus better with more stimulation. More on music for ADHD.
Sleep
Slow, soft pads at around 60 BPM, with no drums, for winding down at the end of the day.
Music for coding and programming
Coding is long, complex work: holding a system in your head, tracing a bug, keeping a train of thought across files. The best music for coding supports that without competing for attention, and Deep work mode is built for it.
- No lyrics to follow. Words in music compete with the words and symbols you're reading, so this programming music is fully instrumental.
- Built for long sessions. Tracks are composed as they play and never loop, and the groove carries on between them, so a three-hour coding session doesn't turn into the same playlist on repeat.
- Moderate energy. Complex problem solving works best at moderate arousal, so the tempo settles in the mid-80s BPM: enough momentum to keep typing, calm enough to think.
- Lives in a browser tab. No app and no account, and nothing interrupts the music between tracks. Open it next to your editor and press Start.
Match the mode to the task: Deep work for writing code and debugging, Read, write & study for code review, documentation and reading unfamiliar code, where language matters most.
Music that helps you focus: what the research says
Background music doesn't help everyone equally, and its average effect is small. But studies agree on what tends to get in the way, and this instrumental focus music is built to avoid it.
- No lyrics. Lyrics and speech-like sounds interfere with reading and verbal memory more than instrumental music, so there are no vocals, and the melody is turned down for reading and writing.
- Not fast and loud at once. In one experiment, fast, loud music hurt reading comprehension while fast, soft music did not. Study mode is slower and quieter.
- Predictable, not repetitive. Sudden changes in background sound grab attention. The groove continues from track to track and keys move to closely related ones, so the music evolves without surprising you.
- The right mood for the task. Music changes how you think mostly by changing your arousal and mood: tempo raises energy, harmony shifts mood. So the music starts from the mood you're in and, over 3 minutes, brings you to the level that suits your activity.

How it works
- Take a short color quiz. Your choices give a reading of your mood: how positive, energetic and in control you feel.
- Choose deep work, read, write & study, or sleep. Each has its own target mood.
- Within 3 minutes, the tempo, energy and harmony help move you from the mood you're in now to the mood for that activity, so you settle into productive work instead of fighting your way into it.
- The music is composed as it plays. Every track has its own key, chords, instruments and melody, generated in your browser. Nothing is prerecorded, so it never loops.
- Leave it running. New tracks blend in on the beat, like a continuous lofi focus mix.
Questions
Is this focus music free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no account, and nothing interrupts the music between tracks.
Does the music have lyrics?
No. Everything is instrumental, because lyrics and speech-like sounds interfere most with reading, writing and memory.
What is lofi focus music?
Lofi is relaxed, instrumental music with soft hip-hop drums, jazzy chords and a warm, slightly worn sound. Alongside classical and ambient, it is one of the most common genres people choose for studying and focus.
Is this good music for coding?
Yes. Deep work mode is designed for coding and programming: instrumental lofi with a steady groove, moderate tempo and no lyrics, generated live so it never loops during long sessions. For code review or reading documentation, switch to Read, write & study, which is quieter and has less melody.
Does music actually help you focus?
It depends on the person and the task, and the average effect in studies is small. Music is most likely to help when it is instrumental, predictable and not too fast and loud, and it tends to get in the way of language-heavy work more than other tasks. Try each mode and keep what works for you.
Why take a color quiz first?
The quiz gives a quick reading of your current mood. The music starts there and, in under 3 minutes, moves you toward the mood that suits your task, instead of jumping straight to it. A gradual shift is easier to settle into than an abrupt one.
Can I use it for sleep?
Yes. Sleep mode plays slow, soft pads at around 60 BPM, with no drums and very few melodic notes.
